The Society for
Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports
(SPORTS) is a society formed by the
Lakshadweep Administration in 1982 with
the avowed aim of tapping tourism
potential of the islands and to act as
the nodal agency of Lakshadweep
Administration for promotion of tourism
in the islands.
The holiday
packages drawn up by SPORTS, while
providing the tourist with a memorable
experience, protect the environment and
do not upset the delicate balance
between man and nature.
The best time to
visit Lakshadweep is from October to mid
May. From mid May to September it is
rainy. Though all the resorts in
Lakshadweep are open throughout the
year, reaching there by ship is
difficult during monsoon. Islands like
Agatti and Bangaram are pleasant even
during the monsoon and can be reached by
flight form Kochi. Reaching resort like
Kadmat, Minicoy and Kavaratti is
difficult as they are not connected by
flight or helicopter. During monsoons,
transport from Agatti to Bangaram is
only by helicopter. Nevertheless the
rainy season presents a breathtaking
experience when the vegetation looks
greener than ever and the veil of rain
adds a different hue to the beauty of
lagoons and the blue seas beyond.
Although flights operate through out the
year for the tourists, ships operates
for local passengers only and are not
available for tourist transport during
monsoon.
SPORTS provide
comfortable A/C & Non A/C accommodation
in the islands and onboard the ships.
The tourist cottages in the islands are
clean and well maintained. For certain
packages like Coral Reef, overnight
accommodation is provided on board the
ship. The tourists cottages in the
islands are built on the beach front and
provide a breath taking lagoon view.
Food provided is hygienic and wholesome.
During day visits to islands, food is
served ashore. While catering to all the
comforts of the tourists, intrusive
ultra modern gadgets have been avoided
by design to provide a really exclusive
get away feeling.
